Lake Catherine State Park

Established: 1935
Acreage: 2,180 · 2,180 acres on the south shore of Lake Catherine; 2,048 ac donated August 22, 1935 by Harvey Couch (Arkansas Power & Light)
Location: Garland County, AR ~8 mi southeast of Hot Springs
Key features: Lake Catherine (Ouachita River impoundment); CCC-built rustic cabins, concession building and bridge (NRHP-listed); Falls Branch waterfall trail; pine-hardwood forest
Activities: Hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, paddling, water-skiing, camping, cabin lodging, geocaching
Notable: Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps; from 1942-1945 the park served as a rest-and-recreation site for wounded servicemen at the nearby Army-Navy Hospital, with German POWs employed to finish CCC-era structures
